Naughty or Nice???

BEFORE!

AFTER!

Cloth placement Revised!

I love this picture!

We'll see if Kirsten goes after this one!

Well little Miss Kirsten has been soooo interested in my one display on my mother's serving buffet.
I caught her once a few days ago when she caught the edge of the green polka dot cloth and I saw her in time before it was almost to the edge. I was busy in the kitchen getting her lunch together and I heard this muffled 'clunk' and I dismissed it. Then I heard a 'crash!' I raced from the kitchen around to where Kirsten was and saw all the mess on the floor around Kirsten!
I did the 'wrong' mommy thing! I raised my voice and said, "You naughty, bad, little girl! You shouldn't have done that!"
Pause...
Rephrase....
Then I said, "Kirsten I apologize. You are not naughty and bad. What you did was naughty and bad. You shouldn't have done that. You could have got hurt. That vase is heavy."
She looked up at me with a dead pan look like ...'So. I enjoyed it!'
She doesn't take me seriously when I scold her because she rarely is naughty!
Hmmm. So, I shortened the cloth and I'll take a 'wait and see' approach.

Kirsten's new hairdo!

Kirsten smiling about her food! She loves to eat!

Kirsten's 'new' haircut!

I took Kirsten in today and had them cut her hair. It was taking 20 minutes to dry her hair! It was heavy and thick! They cut off 3-inches! They tapered and thinned her hair. I can't believe how much lighter her hair is now! It doesn't feel heavy anymore! It is still a little thick, but not as thick as before! Kirsten wasn't too fond of the hair cutting business but when it was over she seemed pleased with the results. I know I am! :o)

I am going to take her in and have her picture taken when I go down and to help out Lisa when her baby comes. She turns '19' on April 2nd and it's time to have a new picture up on the wall of Kirsten.

Thumbs up???

Hmmm. They say things come in 3's. . .
It's not the prettiest thumb, but gosh it sure can do its share of work around the house! This picture sort of reminds me of my daughter Julie and her thumb. It was her senior year of high school and at Girl's Camp. She was working with a pocket knife and was cutting on a twig and the knife almost cut off the top of her thumb. I told her she had a 'flip top thumb.' Not much was left holding it on. I raced her to a hospital where they stitched it up and bandaged up her thumb twice the size of what it's my picture above. Kind of makes you weak-kneed when you go back over the events of her moment.

I didn't go to the doctor for stitches last night. I was cutting up lettuce. I had just sharpened my pairing knife. I was tired of it being dull and really gave it a sharp edge. Ohhh it's plenty sharp! I normally am very careful with knifes, however this time I was a little cavalier and careless and ended up with the above results! I cut the top of my thumb from left to right about 1/2 inch across the top. Fortunately I missed the 'nerves' area. It wasn't far enough across to lose the top but enough to take quick action. Apply plenty of pressure and a bandage and move on to other things. Yes, I did pray for healing! I'll let 48 hours go by and then re-examine my work!

About things coming in 3's...
A few hours earlier I was cleaning adhesive gummy stuff off a pair of scissors. I got out the 'Goo Off' and as I was applying the napkin to the scissors I thought to myself, 'I bet get a paper towel and fold it so I have more layers and protection' but a little too late as it made a little slice in my right index finger tip. Stupid comes to mind! Careless comes to mind!

Well I hope # 3 doesn't come around!

Do you watch Extreme Make Over with Ty Pennington?
We do! Last Sunday was amazing! This lady with 4 children had their home made over. She was born without legs, a small stumpy right arm and a normal left arm. What an amazing lady! She puts everyone to shame who pities themselves. You know the story... I complained because I wanted a new pair of shoes until I met a man with no feet. She raised those 4 children who adore her. She went to college and she was a spokesperson for Easter Seals. To watch how she navigated her wheelchair and hopped up on her counter tops to reach things and so on and so on was amazing!

I'm content with my owies and am learning how to put up Kirsten's hair in a rubber band thumbless. It's not a pretty hairdo, but it's a work in progress!
Have a great day everyone! :o)

Make Your Own Easter Basket!

We hear a lot these days about 'going green' and 'save the environment'.
Some may be tired of hearing these things. This fun project is a 'green' project.
However, I made this many years ago 'BEFORE' green was something more than just a color.
Once I month I go to Kirsten's class and show them how to do a 'hands on' project. Next month we will be making these fun Easter baskets. (This will be precut for them.) For those who are 'green minded' they will like this because (except for the brads to hold on the handle) it is 100% recyclable! When I made this project years ago the cardboard egg cartons were smoother and I had a place to staple the handle on. Today the egg carton has made some changes, much rougher, and more biodegradable. So you work with what you've got! I had to use brads to keep the handle on.
Easter Basket - How to...
2 cardboard egg cartons - 1 dozen egg size
poster board
tissue paper
colored paper or construction paper
or whatever paper you want to use
2 brads
glue
stapler
1-Cut off the lids of your egg cartons and discard.
2-Take the two egg cartons and gently bend them slightly into an arch. Staple the ends of the cartons together to make a circle. If some of the carton pops a hole around the egg cup area it is okay. It can be covered up with the tissue paper flowers.
3-Cut a round circle from poster board (or whatever you have). The circle will be close to an 8-inch circle.
4-Put glue around the entire bottom of the egg carton circle and place on cardboard circle. This makes the bottom of your Easter basket. You made want to put something on top to lightly weigh down the circle so it stays glued to the basket.
5-Cut a handle 1-1/4-inch wide and 13-inches long from poster board (or whatever you have). Decorate your handle with crayons, pens or stickers. Punch a hold at each end of the handles. I clip the corners off each end of the handle.
6-Punch a hole on each side of your basket. I punched the hole where there was a small diamond shape along the top of the egg carton.
7-Tissue paper flowers-You will make 24 paper flowers-Cut pieces of colored tissue paper into 4-inch squares. Layer two pieces and put a pencil in the center and twist from the bottom (or just do it with out a pencil). There are 24 egg cups so you will need 48 tissue squares. Make a circle of glue half way down each cup. Press the tissue flowers inside each cup.
8-Put the handle on your basket with the two brads.
9-Use shredded paper for basket filler. Put in plastic eggs, etc. You're done! :o)
